Maya Egorova (Maya Rossa)

I thought I'd create a new topic for this girl, just discovered her recently and she is more than worthy! Maya (May) Egorova.

I don't know what the Russians put in these kid's water, vocal steroids?!? Just an incredible singer! Here are the basic facts on May:

The lovely and talented 13-year-old girl May Egorova was born on 25 April 2002 in the small town of Chuvash tsivil’sk. The parents expected to have their daughter in May, but the baby decided to be born a little early. Mom and Dad were already accustomed to the idea that their daughter would be born in May, and decided not to change the favored name.

She began singing at 3, and by 6 she couldn’t imagine her life without music. Talent in singing and music May got from her father Alexei Egorov, military retired. He also sings and has a musical education in piano, guitar and violin. It is the father who first drew attention to the ability of the daughter, and when she was 6 years old, took May to a music school. Here she learned to play the piano.

From early childhood, the biography of Maya Egorova is inextricably linked with vocals. The girl is multiple times winner of many International and Ukrainian competitions and festivals. These abilities the little singer developed in a professional studio, doing vocals at least 2 times a week.

In 2015, the Family Egorov moved from tsivil’sk to the capital. May received an offer from one of the Metropolitan theatres to sing in the musical "The Ballad of the Little Heart". But for this it was necessary to live permanently in Moscow. Maya’s parents immediately agreed to move, because "the music is the most important in my daughter’s life." Now the girl stands in the musical. But May Egorov is not only a vocalist, she is multi-talented. She's conducting an in-depth study of the English language. And still keen on sports, going for swimming, figure skating and cycling.

Maya's Hobbies: she loves to weave beads, to draw, to model and sew clothes.

"The Voice Children"

May had long wanted to get to the popular project "Voice Children". Two attempts had not been successful. Only in the beginning of last summer May Egorova, with her parents, filed a new application to participate in the show. In October she was invited to the main casting.

The song submitted by Maya on stage for the blind audition was difficult, because the slightest hypocrisy in it is heard instantly. The young singer managed to sing the Ani Lorak song "I’ll Be Back" so that the judges, and the entire hall stood with delight. The voice of Maya was clean and sweet, the performance was impeccable.

Unfortunately and surprisingly neither Pelagia - deeply impressed by the great tone of the girl, nor Dima, nor sensitive Leonid Agutin turned toward May in time. On the last note of the song Maya could not resist, and her eyes filled with tears. They appeared in the eyes of many in the audience.

It seemed the judges felt guilt because of the growing indignation of the audience who instantly became fans of Maya Egorova. Outrage and lack of understanding of the behavior of the mentors who did not wish to vote for a talented singer literally blew up the Internet.

However, rules are rules. The girl offered to come on the next season of the show, May Egorov promised to return.

Thanks Garth! I didn't know for sure that Maya was in the battle, but I thought I saw her sitting on the sidelines (I think in episode 2) and I was hoping she'd be in it. I wasn't totally crazy about the song she performed in this round, but she is so great I could listen to her sing "Row, Row Your Boat" all day! There is very good competition so far, but May's my pick - I hope she wins!

"My Russia"



What an artist!      

A different version of "Lost On You", a cover of a very interesting, quirky song by LP. Maya is pure magic on this song! The first time I heard it (the version I posted when I started the topic), I hadn't yet heard Maya or the song - I almost clicked on the next video, because of the corny cowboy style verse. Something told me to wait, and was I ever repaid when she hit the bridge....then the chorus finished me off! Her voice is so multi-layered, and such depth in her phrasing...absolutely stunning! This video's a bit lower volume, so turn it up! :)

"Lost On You"



This song's always a favorite of mine, and it's a popular tune for these singers as well, I'm sure it's very challenging vocally - Queen's "Show Must Go On". I think Maya might've loosened a couple of my teeth on this one - deadly laser-accurate pitch, massive power/projection...the best of the Russian singers seem to have developed their "head tones" to an amazing degree, which they combine with full, open diaphragm tones - here's the devastating result!!

I didn't like her song choice that much, but her SINGING is better than his! I don't see how they could pick that kid over her, he sings well but Maya is way beyond that IMO. It's like they're looking for something trendy.

Having said that, I really don't understand Maya's song choice. That song did little to show her true capabilities, the little thing she did at the end seemed like her heart wasn't in it. If she had sung Lost on You, Show Must Go On, My Russia, I'll Be Back or any number of other songs, she would've radiated power as usual and the boy's performance would've come off as superficial, cliche metal posing. Instead her choice of a weaker song made him look better!

I don't understand some of the choices of other great singers either. I always wonder why they'll sing scores of songs that blow me away in videos from regular gigs, but choose a weak or unsuitable song for the big important contest - crazy!

WOW! How cool!! I've heard maybe 3 other versions of Maya covering this song (title translates: "The Way"), also heard Sabina Mustaeva sing it. This is easily the most elaborate production I've seen, and a cool arrangement! I don't know if it's maybe a slightly slower tempo and all the added pomp & circumstance, but Maya seems to put a little more detail into her phrasing than in her other versions. Really great find, Garth!

Hey Garth - I really hope she wins! May is such a hard worker and so deserving....I keep seeing posts from her friends and fans where they call her a workaholic, I can definitely see what they're talking about! She's been a great singer from a very early age, but as I listen to different performances of the same songs, I can hear & see that she's been chiseling away, always working on phrasing, technique, stage presence, always improving. I hope videos of her performances in the competition will be uploaded to youtube!!

I love these 2 songs, Maya & Artem Kovalchuk sound magnificent together! This was performed originally by them in the musical play, "Ballad of a Little Heart", but this performance was for a military school or something. Audio quality is not so great, but I love these vocal performances!
