Along the River by Saida. Ran across this video a little while ago. she is 14yo Russian singer from Tartarstan. Her singing is different mesmerizing. This is a tartar folk song about the men getting notice to go to war during world war 2 and how there families are missing them. Saida was also on the voice kids russia 2015. Take time to listen to singers from over the world in there native languages. You may not know what they are saying but the songs and melodies sound beautiful. Enjoy.

Hi Ellis - I haven't been on much; last time I logged in here I voted for your posts but was in kind of a rush & didn't post anything. Thanks for all the wonderful videos!
Yes, she does play well - initially I didn't realize that Saida even played piano, but a while back I stumbled on this video - to my surprise she not only plays, but at this level!
(Saida's performance at the international contest 'Victoria' in Kazan 29.04.12.)
When you see the video of Saida with her family and consider her background, it's kind of amazing that she had classical piano lessons or ever had a chance to hear something like Nightwish, for instance! One might think she would have been sheltered from the world outside her village, but actually she's incredibly versatile!

Re: Saida Muhammadjan
Hey Ellis - I haven't logged in since May! I finally logged in last night & have been trying to catch up on all the posts. I just listened to these wonderful performances by Saida that you posted since I've been away. Whenever I see & hear her, I remember why she's one of my favorites. Wow, just realized the 1st video was in Istanbul, 2015! Cool stuff! In the video from the Ethnic fest, you could hear some of the little kids in the audience adding their strange harmonies & counterpoints...
I love that last tune, translates to "Along The River" - I really like the use of accordion in Tatar music. It's certainly very complimentary to the beautiful tones in Saida's voice. Of course these posts were mostly Tatar music, but I thought it was really cool in "Vivo Per Lei" that Ilusa Khuzina switched between operatic & pop singing, while Saida sang in a pop style...yet, when she harmonized with Ilusa's operatic parts, it almost took on the operatic character. That track was so beautiful!! That last song is very nice, with the accordion again...
Isn't it great to see kids growing up as performers, but managing to focus on excellence and growing in their art, instead of becoming trashy pop stars? I see many of these young artists doing this, keeping their integrity & doing great things - if that's a trend, I hope & pray the trend spreads! Thanks for the great posts, Ellis!

Competition between schools for folk vocals - 1.03.17
Well done. Each nation has its own exclusive rich culture. You are a worthy representative. Continue in the same spirit! More national songs, it’s in them you reveal. And a national costume is a must.

Tatar songs are unspeakably beautiful. Saida has a wonderful voice, delivered from nature. Successes further to the young singer!
